At LJM Solutions, we believe advice about energy and solar systems should be designed for people, not for bureaucratic systems or sales targets. We want to turn Energy Confusion into Solar Confidence.
This blog sets out how energy advice can be reimagined to focus on clarity, empathy, and affordability. It also shows how solar, when delivered honestly and with the right support, can be a practical tool in the wider journey to making energy efficiency accessible for everyone.

This blog sets out the UK government’s new UK Solar Roadmap 2025 will impact all of us, how it affects you and where our responsibilities lie in making sure it is implemented.
At LJM I oversee the operations, the day to day planning of installations and making sure we have the best products for the homeowners, businesses and organisations we support. One major factor I have noticed, especially with the feedback that comes from our excellent customer service team, is that energy advice in the UK has long been complicated, inconsistent, and often inaccessible to the very people who need it most.
Homeowners who want to lower their bills are faced with technical jargon. Businesses seeking to become more efficient find themselves navigating changing government schemes, and vulnerable groups such as the elderly or digitally excluded are frequently left out altogether. The result is a system where people are overwhelmed with information but short on clarity and trust.
At LJM Solutions, we are doing our best to provide simple, clear, honest and relevant information, turning Energy Confusion to Solar Confidence.

Energy terms can be bewildering: EPC bands, kWp ratings, inverters, SEG tariffs, PAS2035 standards. To an energy professional, these are second nature. But to someone simply trying to reduce their bills, they can feel like a foreign language. This is what we mean by Energy Confusion, the next step is to turn it into Solar Confidence
We see it as our responsibility to translate the jargon into everyday language that makes sense.
Instead of telling a customer they need a 4kWp PV system with a hybrid inverter, we explain: “This system could generate enough to cover most of your lighting, appliances, and hot water during the day – reducing your reliance on the grid and lowering your bills.” This approach replaces confusion with confidence.
Clarity also means being upfront about costs, payback periods, and limitations. Our sales team ensure all this information is visible in every free proposal sent to our clients – it also includes how many trees are saved, the long-haul flight equivalent or CO2 emissions saved.
Although we say there is a solar panel for every roof, we must also sometimes explain that not every property is suitable for solar, or that adding solar may not be the best energy measure for the property, but we know that customers respect honesty when we explain why.
Every home and business is unique. Advice should never be given as a one-size-fits-all pitch. And neither should a quote be done solely from Google Maps – at LJM when we listen to our customers, we aim to be standing with them in their homes or businesses to understand exactly how we can best help them.
At LJM we create a bespoke quote for every customer – a tailored made proposal, not an inflated price!
We start by listening:
For an older person trying to save on energy bills to heat their home, the right solution might be solar with a battery. For a café owner, it could be time-of-use advice alongside a solar system designed to power daytime equipment. For a landlord, it might mean balancing legal obligations with tenant welfare and affordability, whilst still benefitting from the export returns.
Listening also means understanding financial pressures. Not every household or business can commit to a major investment. By listening first, we provide advice that matches both the technical needs of the property and the personal circumstances of the customer and sharing how the investment offers the returns which many have not considered.
As an example, LJM Solutions is currently installing a solar solution for a large business in Nottinghamshire. The initial discussions began with the company explaining that they could not justify the investment at the current time. When asked what their business energy usage was, it wasn’t long before we able to demonstrate how the investment would not only pay for itself, but that the savings across the 25-year life span of the system would be in excess of £1 million – from an initial investment of less than £200,000!
As a Midlands-based, family-run business, we understand local homes and energy challenges. With MCS, TrustMark, QualityMark and NAPIT accreditations, you can trust us to deliver safe, high-quality installations. Our friendly team is here to help with expert advice on solar panels, battery storage, or electrical services. No pressure, just honest answers.
Energy isn’t just about kilowatts – it’s about people’s lives. Rising bills cause daily stress. Cold homes damage health. Unpredictable costs make it harder for businesses to protect jobs. Too often, advice has been delivered without recognising these realities. This is where we believe Energy Confusion can be converted into Solar Confidence.
At LJM Solutions, we make empathy central to the way we advise.
That means avoiding patronising tones and instead acknowledging people’s concerns. We take our responsibility seriously when it comes to informing the customers about the things that are important to them and of course letting them know about things we believe they may need to know: Like ensuring the solar installer they select is a registered MCS certified installer – because if they are not then its not possible to export excess energy back to the grid – something we recognize that many homeowners especially are not aware of.
It means recommending realistic steps also – whether that’s a major renewable investment or simply just changing the time people doing the washing, or even changing their energy supplier or adding monitoring and smart controls. – We’ve seen that where we have done an installation and added a monitoring device, consumers have become addicted to watching it , but most importantly, they have changed their habits and adjusted the way they use their energy , especially the more senior generation.
Therefore, energy advice must recognise the individual circumstances of people, businesses and housing providers. It must acknowledge the emotional as well as financial pressures families and businesses face.
Energy prices are unpredictable, but your future doesn’t have to be. With solar from LJM Solutions, you can take control of your energy costs and secure long-term savings. See how we can help you by visiting our website or email us directly or calling 0115 7720 456.
Many people hesitate to engage with solar or energy companies because they fear being pressured into a sale. Trust must be built through honesty and independence.
At LJM Solutions we are RECC certified – The Renewable Energy Consumer Code and TrustMark accredited, so there is no mis-selling. We never recommend unnecessary systems or over-specify equipment. Our approach is to guide customers through their options, highlighting both benefits and limitations, and letting them make informed decisions.
Recently, we received praise from one of our customers when we explained that the better return on investment for her property would be the installation of 10 panels and a battery, and not 13 panels and a battery. Her comment was that she had never met a company who recommended the cheaper option. However, that wasn’t the reason she actually chose us above other companies who had quoted, she chose us because she was an architect and knew how difficult it was to achieve Constructionline Gold and CHAS – something most other solar installers do not have.
Our accreditations provide reassurance: MCS Certification for solar installations, TrustMark and QualityMark Protection offering 10-year guarantees, CHAS accreditation for health and safety, Constructionline Gold, NAPIT electrical certification, and Cyber Essentials
for data protection. These standards are external proof that our advice and installations can be trusted. Customers know we stand behind our work – not just with words, but with independent validation.
A common misconception is that energy efficiency and solar are luxuries for the wealthy. We reject that idea completely.
Through careful planning, advice, and support, we help make improvements accessible and affordable. For those who can invest in solar, we make sure systems are tailored to real needs – not oversized, overpriced, or oversold. Affordability is about making sure every pound invested delivers value.
At LJM Solutions we work with able to pay clients, domestic residential, commercial and landlords. We are also subcontracted to larger principal contractors and local authorities who provide subsidized funding such as ECO4 and Warmer Homes as set out in the government’s Solar Roadmap.
But no matter who we are installing for, our objective is always to offer the best advice to our customers, so that everyone can become sustainable whilst saving money and valuing from the free energy of the sun.
Sustainability is often used as a buzzword, but we believe it must have practical meaning.
When we install solar panels on a home, we are not only cutting that household’s bills – we are reducing carbon emissions and contributing to cleaner air.
When a business invests in energy efficiency, it is making itself more resilient to energy shocks while also improving its reputation with customers and staff.
Our work contributes directly to the UK’s Net Zero Strategy, but more importantly, it helps communities become healthier, stronger, and fairer. Sustainability is about connecting long-term national goals with immediate benefits for households and businesses.
Energy efficiency isn’t just for big budgets. We design systems that fit your home and your finances, offering practical upgrades and flexible solutions. Learn more by visiting our website or emailing us directly or calling 0115 7720 456.
One of the most frequent questions we hear is: “Where should I start?” Energy efficiency can feel overwhelming. Our advice is always to take it step by step.
Our projects show how advice, when done properly, makes a difference:

– Download our Commercial Case studies Here
Each case is different, but all share one thing: honest, tailored advice leading to better outcomes.
Energy advice has been overcomplicated for too long. It has felt like a box-ticking exercise or a sales funnel, when it should be about supporting people. Our approach is to make advice clear, empathetic, and practical – and to deliver solar and other solutions in a way that builds confidence rather than confusion.
At LJM Solutions, we are proud to be a family business that puts people first. By focusing on clarity, empathy, trust, and affordability, we help households and businesses take steps toward a sustainable, resilient future.
Energy efficiency is not just about technology; it is about people. And when advice is designed for people, it works.
